Signature program
Live Cohort + Self-Paced Options
Commercial Artistry is an intensive 10-week program for intermediate illustrators who want to find more focus in their professional work — especially in their style and niche. Cohort Space is limited and by application only.
FROM SCATTERED TO FOCUSED
You're an experienced illustrator with lots of work to prove it. You've got all the right pieces for a more confident, fulfilling practice. But everything feels so scattered. You want to find more focus — especially in your style and niche. But how do you even know where to start?
Dig Deep
Before any lesson or project, Commercial Artistry starts with you. That means digging deep into your past work to find clues to breakthroughs you've already had — but have been too busy to notice.
Define Your Toolkit
Now you have the big picture view of your work: the next step is to make sense of it all! You'll spend the next few weeks building your Creative Thesis, using The 5 Pillars of Commercial Artistry as your guide.
Stress-Test It
The only way to prove your Creative Thesis works is by testing it out. You'll be assigned a multi-part illustration project, based on your area of interest and modelled on real-world briefs.
Refine and Launch
Finally, you'll review what you learned in the program. What worked out? What were the challenges? How will all this shape your next project? You'll conclude with a final Positioning exercise to apply to your portfolio website.
LEARN YOUR WAY
Know Your Art is available in both self-paced and live cohort options.
Great Value
If you like working independently, have limited time, or live in an incompatible time zone, the self-paced program is the best way to take the program.
Premium experience
If you're you want more accountability, peer community, and weekly instructor access and mentorship, you'll want to apply for the Live Cohort.

This program is tailored specifically for commercial illustrators looking to bridge the gap between their unique artistic voice and high-value, client-focused work.
The focus is on advertising, branding, editorial, marketing campaigns, and select publishing or licensing projects. We emphasize conceptual thinking, visual communication, and design-oriented illustration styles.
While artists from all backgrounds are welcome, illustrators focused exclusively on long-form narrative publishing (such as graphic novels or children’s picture books) may find our heavy emphasis on client-driven business strategy less aligned with their immediate goals.
No. This course is designed for working commercial illustrators with a recommended minimum of 20 client projects under their belt. If you're still learning the fundamentals of illustration, this isn't the right fit yet.
Self-paced lectures (depending on the cohort) will be available to watch in advance of our live sessions.
All live group sessions are recorded, and you’ll have full access to the replays. That said, the live interaction is where the core value of a cohort lives, so we strongly encourage you to plan to attend live!
Listed live session times will be based on local time in Vancouver, BC, Canada (Pacific / UTC-7).
If there's any doubt, use a time zone converter like this one.
For your illustrations: No. You’ll work in whatever physical or digital media you already use.
For presenting your work: Yes. You will need a layout/presentation app like InDesign, Canva, Keynote, or similar.
For participating in class: Yes. You will need a desktop or laptop computer with a modern browser (Chrome or Brave recommended). Mobile devices and iPads are not recommended for participating in live class activities due to their limited functions.
This is an intensive program! Plan to spend 2–6 hours per week outside of live sessions, depending on the module and your personal workflow.
Hopefully! But that isn't the primary goal. You will be assigned a full project during the program, but whether you publish it in your portfolio is secondary. The main purpose of the assignment is to help you shift from theory to practice as you apply your Creative Thesis work in a hands-on way.
